A  Mexican drug dealer sends a deadly message to the U.S.

The second armed Jeep swept into view

The man behind the machine gun hadn’t known what to expect, but it most certainly wasn’t to have a friendly gun turned on him. Bolan raked the Jeep from front to back, bullets punching into the hood and windshield. The driver jerked back, his chest and head pulverized by the continuous blast of automatic fire.

The Jeep swerved and ran on for yards before the engine stalled and it rattled to a stop. The Executioner hammered at it until the gas tank’s contents caught a spark and erupted in a boiling surge of flame.

The surviving traffickers had begun to pull themselves together for a concerted rush at Bolan’s vehicle, but the Executioner swung the barrel of his weapon back on line and inflicted more damage. Under his relentless fire, the men went down hard, bodies bloodied and torn.

Bolan’s finger released the trigger and the chatterof the machine gun ceased. All that remained was the moaning of the wounded. The dead held their peace.

The Executioner knew the clock was ticking. Though the numbers were still falling, he knew without a shadow of doubt there would be others.

How long he might hold them back was anyone’s guess.

A Malaysian school becomes a deadly battleground...

A grenade bounced down the alley toward them

Without hesitating, Rosli stepped forward and
planted a firm toe-kick with impeccable accuracy.
The grenade whipped back the way it had come.

“Down!” Bolan ordered.

They hit the deck. The grenade exploded in the
alley mouth. Bolan counted to three, his ears
ringing from the blast, then surged up with the
Beretta 93-R in both hands.

He advanced on the alley mouth. The bodies
of the shooters he and Rosli had already killed
were splayed in gruesome wreckage, torn by
the explosion. Bolan had seen enough carnage
in his lengthy personal war that the sight did
not unnerve him, but he would never truly be
used to it; no sane human being ever became
completely inured to death and destruction. The
Executioner simply did what he had to do, and
took in measured stride the dead men he left in
his wake—men who tried to take his life, or the
lives of good men, women and children. If at
some time Mack Bolan was held to account, if his
tally were to be judged, he would stand unafraid
before whatever power that might be.

But that day of judgment would not be this day.

A man's quest for vengeance knows no limits...

The Executioner abandoned the trail.

He tucked the carbine in close to his chest as he zigzagged down the uneven slope. The going was precarious as the ground beneath him was clotted with loose stones and small rocks. For each sure step there would be one where the ground gave way under his weight. Several times he dropped to one knee, raising welts along his thigh as he half fell, half slid his way downhill, raising a cloud of volcanic ash and dislodging the gravel around him. It was as if he’d become a one-man avalanche.

After another twenty yards, the ground abruptly fell away and he was thrown forward, off balance, into a deep recess. He struck the far edge of the gully knee-first, then with his shoulder, jarring his carbine loose. The rifle sailed past him and rolled sideways another five yards before coming to a rest. Bolan, meanwhile, slumped into the cavity, dazed. He had the presence of mind to drop as low as he could, avoiding the stream of gunfire that, moments later, skimmed past the gully’s rim. As he waited for his head to clear, the Executioner reached for his web holster, unsheathing his Beretta.

He was down but not out.

Bolan must extinguish the flames of extremism...

The gunners hit the ground running.

Bolan didn’t wait for them to organize. He fired a three-round burst into the nearer chase car’s windshield, where the driver’s head should be, and thought he heard a strangled cry before all hell broke loose around him.

Bolan couldn’t accurately count the muzzle flashes winking at him from behind the headlights, but he thought that there were only five. If he was right, if he had drawn first blood with the unlucky driver, then he had already shaved the hostile odds by seventeen percent.

That still left five assassins, armed and angry, throwing down at him with everything they had.

Aolani’s car would never be the same. Bullets were raking it from grill to trunk along the driver’s side, some of them coming through the now shattered windows. So far, Bolan could not smell any leaking gasoline, but that was just dumb luck. Both tires were already deflated on the driver’s side, and Bolan knew they wouldn’t leave the Punchbowl in it.

Assuming they ever left at all.

A small town is caught between warring factions in the latest episode of The Executioner.

The Executioner burst into the back room and immediately crouched.

The instinctual move saved Bolan’s life as the escapee burst from behind a desk and triggered two rounds that whizzed overhead close enough for him to hear their passage. He recognized the shooter instantly.

Bolan leveled his weapon and squeezed the trigger. The 9 mm slugs struck center mass, entering the body with an upward trajectory, and punched through lung and heart tissue before exiting out the upper back. The impact sent the man reeling into a filing cabinet with enough force to dent the thin, light gray metal drawers.

The sounds of battle died and Bolan rose slowly amid the smoke of gunfire and the smell of death. The air of violence and spent energies clung to the Executioner like a cloak. The battle had taken less than a minute but the threat had been quelled.

All that remained was to topple the head of the underworld. And it was a task Mack Bolan relished.

America faces an attack from within...

“I will kill this girl immediately!”

The man’s high-pitched voice threatened to shatter the eardrums of everyone in the Learjet. “You fill a suitcase with old magazines and think we will not open it before we release the woman?”

“Well, Moe,” Bolan said, holding the mike up to his mouth again, “it was all I could think of to do. We didn’t have a million dollars to give you.” Now was the moment of truth. The woman would live or die.

“You have not heard the last from us,” Moe screamed.
“And the blood of this young woman is on your
hands!”

The radio suddenly went silent.

Bolan saw a woman wearing a red dress—her hands and feet tied together—being shoved out of the Cessna just below them.

“Parachute!” he yelled at the top of his voice as he snapped open his seat belt.

With the unopened parachute clenched in his fist, Bolan never even broke stride as he raced out the door and into the open air thousands of feet above the earth.

This is how the other half lives, but they all die the same.

The Executioner pushed the thought from his mind.

Santos followed Bolan closely, turning frequently
to check the corridor behind them for approaching
enemies. He caught her movements from the corner
of his eye and reckoned she was doing all that
could be done. The hotel was a warren built as if
with ambushes in mind and there was no way he
could protect them from all sides.

No way at all.

That was the price of hunting lethal predators.
Sometimes—more times than he could count, in
fact—the hunter was transformed into the prey.
Like now? he wondered.

He wasn’t sure, but Bolan knew one thing beyond
a shadow of doubt—he wasn’t giving up. If he
could swap his own life for a thousand hostages,
he’d reckon it was a decent trade.

Mack Bolan Mega Photoshoot

Recently Gold Eagle organized a Mack Bolan mega photoshoot to create new imagery for the Bolan and Executioner book covers.


Model Phil McCauley (who has been associated with the character for several years now,) reprised his role as the Executioner.



The action unfolded at photographer Robert Goshgarian's studio in Toronto, with Bolan art director Bill Laughton overseeing the proceedings. "I was looking to contemporize the character", says Laughton, "To bring the imagery more in line with today's edgier, grittier action heroes. I think we succeeded brilliantly."

The Executioner Returns in Comic Format April 16th

This wednesday marks Mack Bolan's return to comic book format!

Don Pendleton’s The Executioner: The Devil’s Tools is written by our own popular Mack Bolan novelist Douglas Wojtowicz, with interiors by SL Gallant (Marvel Adventures) and colors by Luis Antonio Delgado (Gene Simmons House of Horrors). Rebecca A. Wrigley will be creating covers. Mack Bolan, a.k.a. the Executioner, has been the inspiration for countless payback warriors since the series’ inception in 1969 (Yes, Punisher, we're looking at you. Don't roll your eyes at us!). In The Devil’s Tools, Bolan returns in an explosive five-issue mini-series that pits him against a conglomerate of enemies who are representative of the Executioner’s many literary conflicts—from his War against the Mafia to his battles with the KGB in the ‘80s, and modern organized crime and terrorism.

We're stoked to spotlight the special alternative vintage cover for issue 1 by original Bolan novel cover artist Michael G. Herring. Herring's original Bolan artwork will be featured for each issue variant of the miniseries. Below is the alternative cover for the first issue.

Don Pendleton's The Executioner: The Devil's Tools will be a 5-issue miniseries from IDW Publishing. The first issue hits in April 2008 and the book will run monthly, with a trade paperback collection of all five issues to be released in November 2008.


No stranger to Gold Eagle readers, Douglas Wojtowicz (author of Executioner novels "Double Play" and "Aftershock", just to name a few) is spinning the tale of The Devil's Tools, with art by SL Gallant (Marvel Adventures) and colors by Luis Antonio Delgado (Gene Simmons House of Horrors). Covers will be handled by Rebecca A. Wrigley (Disney Feature Animation). We'll be previewing finished art soon and hope to chat with Doug about the transition of Mack from books to comics, but for now, feast your eyes on the in-process artwork!

Gold Eagle Books and IDW Partnership

Beginning in February 2008 IDW Publishing will be releasing comic book and graphic novel versions of The Executioner and Rogue Angel!

Executioner fans remember February 1984 well: when Mack lost the love of his life, April Rose, in Executioner 62: Day of Mourning. But not to worry. Fan Paul A. created this fictional cover below to bring the love back for Mack.

Flashback: The Executioner #1

Here's the cover of the first Executioner book, published in 1969, featuring action hero Mack Bolan. An interesting pop culture fact: In the 1970s, Marvel Comics based their anti-hero The Punisher on Don Pendleton's Bolan character. Both were Vietnam War veterans who had their families murdered by the mafia and were driven to seek revenge. Additionally, the "War Journal", battle van and weaponry were all used in The Executioner series before the Punisher was created. Thanks, Wikipedia!
